Cheap cable TV might sound like an oxymoron - after all, cable companies are not exactly known for their low, low prices like a discount department store might be. The truth is, though, that it is possible to get cheap cable TV for you and your family if you are willing to do some legwork and shop around for it! |

Cheap Cable TV from Your Local Cable Company |
|
Most areas of the United States don't have more than two different cable providers to choose from, but you do still have a choice. The reason that you can't choose from among the dozens of different cable companies that operate in the United States no matter where you live is that laying and maintaining the actual cable that delivers the TV service is expensive, and each company has to have its own. If a company lays cable everywhere, but is competing against dozens of other companies that also have cable laid everywhere, then they risk not making any money. As a result, you, as a consumer, end up with a much smaller selection when it comes to companies to choose from for your cable TV. If the companies DID offer service everywhere, then that would definitely translate to cheaper costs for you, since they would be competing for your business, but that's just not going to happen. Instead, to get cheap cable TV from the options available to you, you have to do some legwork. Compare the offerings from the providers in your area to find out which offers a package that is the better deal. Then call the opposite company and see if they will do something for you to match it or beat it - that way, you can end up with better service and more channels for the price of a lesser package at the other company. You can also often get a considerable discount on your cable TV monthly charges by getting it in a bundle with some other services. Cable companies everywhere are now offering other services, like cable Internet and cable telephone, in addition to television related services. If you get TV, Internet and telephone all together in a bundle, the price is usually a lot less, and you can eliminate having to use a separate telephone company and a separate Internet company at the same time, which saves time on top of money. These packages are usually called "triple play" packages, so ask your cable provider if they offer a deal like that. |

One of the things that really jacks up the monthly cable bill are premium movie channels like HBO, Showtime and Starz. You can eliminate that cost by going with a cheaper cable package that doesn't include those channels and still watch the programming those channels offer by going to the Internet instead. Many of these networks offer their shows and movies for free on their websites, as streaming media. All you have to do is go to the website and watch! |
