NHL Hockey: Who's Hot And Who's Cold?
The NHL TV schedule is just getting started, and with that comes multiple opportunities for any NHL hockey team to get on their own hot streak or tumble into the ever-present world of mediocrity. We're pleased to offer you the NHL "Hot or Cold" award given to two teams each week that are either Human Flame hot or Mr. Freeze cold.
Make sure you catch every streak as they happen by calling Sterling Satellite and asking a customer service representative how DISH Network caters to your NHL hockey viewing needs.
Hot
The Nashville Predators have been scorching for almost a month of the NHL TV schedule, as they have notched 11 wins in 13 games. The Predators are currently on a three game winning streak, thanks to strong play from goalie Pekka Rinne.
Rine has won four starts in a row to go 9-1 since New Year’s Eve, and has only given up 1.48 goals per game over that span of the NHL TV schedule. The most goals the Predators have allowed in wins since December 31 was two, which only strengthens the argument that a hot goalie can carry a team.
Nashville has found some offensive rhythm since the start of 2011, but the team is still ranked 20th in goals per game and 27th in Power Play percentage. A streaking goalie can carry a team to the top of the NHL standings, but it can’t carry them through a full NHLTV schedule unless the goalie is a proven brick wall.
Cold
On the opposite end of the 2011 NHL TV schedule spectrum, the Ottawa Senators have only managed to win one game since New Year’s Eve. There are many things going awry in Ottawa, which doesn’t do much to inspire confidence in the team’s current makeup.
The Senators are 1-9 in their last 10 games of the NHL TV schedule, and haven’t shown any signs of improvement despite the presence of a few proven veterans. Ottawa is 29th in goals scored per game, 27th in goals against, 21st in Power Play percentage, and 22nd in penalty killing percentage.
Ottawa is just a year removed from taking the Pittsburgh Penguins to six games in the NHL playoffs, but the reality is the team has fallen long and hard back to a place where the dreaded “R” word (rebuilding) will soon be making an appearance.
