Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need to meet any residential/demographic requirements to get DISH Network?
- You will have to reside in a residence within the continental United States to get DISH Network from Sterling Satellite. We are currently unable to sign up new customers in Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico; however, limited service is available in those areas directly through DISH Network or local authorized retailers.
- Can I get DISH Network if I live in an apartment or condominium?
- In many cases, yes, you can get DISH Network in these situations. In some cases, you will need the permission of your landlord before you will be able to install the satellite dish. For these instances, we provide a landlord permission form that will have to be downloaded and completed before the installer arrives.
- What happens to my DISH Network account if I move?
- Your DISH Network service will move with you! You can take your service with you when you move by contacting DISH Network’s DishMOVER service. If you call 1-888-557-9569, you can arrange for installation of a new satellite dish at your new address. You will, however, be responsible for bringing your receivers and remotes with you when you move.
- Do you install the DISH Network satellite dish and receivers at my house?
- We do not install the satellite dishes ourselves. We have partnered with a nationwide network of licensed DISH Network installers who will be happy to install your satellite dish. These installers conform to all industry standards, ensuring that you will receive a quality installation from a certified, insured company. You will even receive a 90-day warranty with your installation.
The installer will bring the DISH Network receivers to your home when they come to install your satellite dish. They will help you connect the receivers to your satellite dish, but depending on the connection that you want, you may be responsible for connecting it to your TV. Most basic connections can be completed by the installer, but they may not have more expensive or advanced cabling.
- Can my Homeowner’s Association keep me from installing DISH Network?
- No, because the DISH Network satellite dish conforms to standards that have been set by Congress. The DISH Network antenna is 20 inches large and complies with the Satellite Consumer Bill of Rights, a regulation codified by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on August 6, 1996. This regulation OVERRULES area zoning ordinances and Homeowner's Association covenants and restrictions on DISH antennas. This rule was required by Congress in the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Some Homeowner's associations (HOA's) have been fighting to keep the right to restrict satellite installation by threatening tenants with dish antennas with legal action. In a few cases, the HOA's argued that a DISH antenna installed on a roof was within the common area. The HOA's lost this argument. The United States government is on your side in this matter. For a copy of the FCC regulation, please click here. For more specific information, please contact the Satellite Broadcasting & Communications Association (SBCA) at (703)549-6990 or at SBCA.org.
- Do I have to have a contract through DISH Network? How long do I have to maintain my contract?
- You will have to agree to maintain programming and service from DISH Network for a determined amount of time in order to take advantage of specials and offers.
The length of the contract will depend on the programming and promotions that are available to you. When you call to sign up for DISH Network, the terms and conditions of the particular programming packages and promotional discounts will be disclosed to you. These terms can also vary depending on your credit score, so it is impossible to predict what it will be for each customer.
- Are local channels included in DISH Network packages?
- Yes, almost all DISH Network packages now include local channels! DISH Network now also offers local channels to the entire United States.
- What is DishHOME?
- DishHOME is DISH Network’s exclusive channel that offers you the latest news and information regarding DISH Network and its programming. You will be able to see exclusive content, special on demand programming, and other great features when you tune in to DishHOME!
