Starting June 12, 2009, television stations in the U.S. stopped broadcasting in analog and switch to 100% digital broadcasting.
This transition, mandated by Congress, will open up airwaves for emergency communications used by police, fire and rescue. It will also provide consumers with improved television picture and sound quality, as well as more programming options and additional channels. All in all, that transition is a good thing.
But...
If you don’t have Satellite TV, Cable TV, or a Television with a digital tuner, you will not
be able to watch TV after June 12, 2009
But with DISH Network You're Ready for DTV!
The DTV transition is easy with DISH Network. DISH offers great satellite TV at the lowest all-digital price available. As long as your DISH service includes local channels and all of your TVs are connected to that service, you won't have to worry about anything!
Were you affected?
After June 12, television viewers with analog TVs will not be able to receive programming unless they either:
All television equipment sold after May 25, 2007, should contain a digital tuner. Retailers selling TV equipment without a digital tuner must make that information known to consumers by displaying the following text:
This television receiver has only an analog broadcast tuner and will require a converter box after February 17, 2009, to receive over-the-air broadcasts with an antenna because of the Nation’s transition to digital broadcasting. Analog-only TVs should continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products. For more information, call the Federal Communications Commission at 1-888-225-5322 (TTY: 1-888-835-5322) or visit the Commission’s digital television website at: www.dtv.gov.
If you purchased your TV before May 25, 2007, look for labels or markings indicating your TV has a digital tuner. If you find an input connection labeled "ATSC" or "digital input," or words such as "Integrated DTV," "Digital Tuner Built-In," "Integrated Digital Receiver," or "ATSC Receiver Built-In," you should be able to view digital over-the-air programming without a converter box.
If your TV is labeled "Digital Ready" or "HDTV Ready," or "Digital Monitor" or "HDTV Monitor," it doesn't necessarily mean if has a digital tuner. If your set is labeled as "analog" or "NTSC," and is not labeled as containing a digital tuner, it only has an analog tuner and will require a converter box.
If you can't determine whether your equipment contains a digital tuner, contact the manufacturer for more information.
