EchoStar Launches 15th Satellite – Will Expand HD Offerings
On March 21st, EchoStar, parent company of DISH Network, announced that it had successfully launched its 15th satellite. This new satellite, known as EchoStar XVI, will primarily be used to expand the high definition offerings on DISH Network. DISH Network already leads the industry with more than 160 channels in HD. Many also believe that the expansion of the satellite fleet will lead to DISH Network offering local channels to the two dozen or so remaining mall markets. It seems soon that DISH Network will be able to provide local channels to the entire country.
